One of the advantages of owning a Mac over the years has been the extremely low chance of being affected by a virus. While PC users had this as a constant worry, Mac users escaped. This difference existed because for a long time, there were so fewer Mac users that it wasn’t worth the time of the evil-doers to create such a virus. Recently, however, a malware titled MacDefender has popped up with the ability to affect Mac users via Safari.
MacDefender isn’t a virus, but a fake antivurus that tries to get you to install it to your system. If it succeeds, it then either tells you your system has already been infected, or shows you fake evidence that your system already has a virus. It asks you to buy the full version of MacDefender with your credit card to fix all your problems and get your Mac running normally again.
