Meta Wants to Pay You to Switch From TikTok

How does a $5,000 bonus sound just for launching your brand on Meta? If you’ve already established yourself on TikTok, the Meta Breakthrough Bonus Program wants you to switch sides and join Facebook and Instagram instead.

Major Bonuses for Creators Who Switch

I’m sure we’ve all seen mobile carriers offering large bonuses and free phones if you switch, but Meta’s taking the concept to a whole new level. With TikTok’s future still uncertain at best, Meta wants creators who “have an existing presence on a third party social app” to join the new Meta Breakthrough bonus program.

Earn a bonus of up to $5,000 just for posting 10 reels on Instagram and 20 reels on Facebook every month for your first three months. There are rumors of higher bonuses, but this is Meta’s official number.

This bonus is on top of earning through the Facebook Content Monetization program. It’s an invite-only program, but if you’re accepted to the Breakthrough bonus program, you’re automatically invited.

Only For New Creators

Here’s the catch. Meta knows some creators may already use Instagram and Facebook in addition to TikTok to monetize content. The bonus program is only for creators who’ve never monetized their content on a Meta platform.

So, even if you use Facebook or Instagram just to connect with family and friends, you’re eligible. If you’re already earning from content on either platform, no bonus for you.

Of course, you also need an established presence on another social media platform. While Meta doesn’t specifically state TikTok, it’s pretty easy to assume that’s the target audience here. If you’re fairly new on TikTok with just a small following, it might be harder to get accepted and if you do, your bonus might be smaller.

Meta does make it clear that your audience size and engagement metrics contribute to your offered bonus. Only the top creators are likely to get the full $5,000, but it doesn’t hurt to apply and see what your offer might be. Also, not all creators will even be eligible at all. Not only is it possible you won’t be offered a bonus, but you might not receive an invitation to any of Facebook’s monetization programs.

But, as you grow on Meta’s platforms, you could still be invited. The good news is the same tips for going viral on TikTok work well elsewhere too.

Hesitation to Join Meta

The backlash over Meta ending its fact-checking program has many users looking for new social networks to call home. Governments throughout the world have spoken out against the change, resulting in Meta stating fact-checking will remain in place in other countries. To fit more with President Donald Trump’s push for free speech, no matter what form that may take, Mark Zuckerberg is attempting to keep Meta’s platforms more open and less censored in the US.

Removing fact-checkers in the US could hinder Meta’s latest bonus program. TikTok creators may choose to simply stay where they are or look elsewhere to build their brands.
