Samsung has put the Galaxy SmartTag3 on sale at $29.99 for a one-pack, and says the tracker’s up-to-60-metre Compass View figure applies to Bluetooth Channel Sounding, is measured in line-of-sight conditions and is limited to four listed Galaxy devices, according to the company’s US newsroom announcement of 6 November 2026.

Compass View gives distance and directional guidance from up to 60 metres away, around three times farther than the previous generation, Samsung said. A four-pack sells for $99.99. The company said the tag could be bought from the day of the announcement.

What the 60-metre range requires

Samsung attaches the up-to-60 m figure to Bluetooth Channel Sounding, which the company says is available only on the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy S26 Ultra and Galaxy S26 Plus. Additional devices may be supported in future, Samsung said.

The base Galaxy S26 does not appear on that Bluetooth Channel Sounding list. The announcement does not say whether that model supports Compass View by other means, and makes no statement about its compatibility with the tracker generally.

The figure is measured under line-of-sight conditions, with no obstacles between the transmitter and the receiver. Detection range and the accuracy of direction and distance measurements may be reduced by nearby electronic devices, walls and other physical obstructions, Samsung said.

Compass View runs on a wider set of hardware. Samsung says it is available on Galaxy devices running Android 12 or later that support either ultra-wideband or Bluetooth Channel Sounding. No range figure is given for ultra-wideband. Availability varies by country, region and device.

Place Notification, Location History and movement alerts

Place Notification alerts users when a tagged item moves in or out of an area they have set. Samsung describes it as a trial feature, turned on in SmartThings under Life, then Find, then “Notify when in set place”.

The displayed location of the tag may differ from its actual location depending on its surroundings, the company said.

Location History lets users review where a tag has been. Records are stored for up to seven days, and older records are deleted automatically.

Movement Detection Alert notifies users when movement is detected. The feature operates only when the SmartTag3 is disconnected from the device, and relies on signals detected by nearby Galaxy devices that have agreed to Offline finding.

Samsung said notifications may be delayed, or may not be received at all, depending on the availability and status of those nearby devices and on the surroundings of the tag.

Design and safety guidance

Samsung lists the SmartTag3 as offering long-range finding, cross-OS support and fast location updates through the Galaxy Find Network, in a thinner design than previous generations. The company cites keys, luggage and a pet collar as places to attach it.

A safety note in the announcement says that if the SmartTag3 detaches from the item it is attached to, it may pose a swallowing hazard to young children and pets. Samsung said users should make sure the tag is securely fastened before use and inspect it regularly.

Use should stop immediately if the tag is damaged, deformed or has detached, the company said. If it is swallowed, Samsung said to contact emergency medical services or a veterinarian immediately.
