The METRO Redux Next-Gen Update went live on 29 October 2026 on Xbox Series X|S as a free download for Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux, according to an Xbox Wire post by John Bloch, franchise executive producer at developer 4A Games.
Owners can run either game in true 4K at 60fps or upscaled 4K at 120fps.
Both modes become available once the update is downloaded and applied, Bloch said. The update also brings 4A TSR upscaling and antialiasing support. Bloch described the frame rate options as the first part of a wider overhaul that reworks how the two games look on current Xbox hardware.
That overhaul includes more detailed textures and a refined lighting and shadow system.
Bloch said the lighting changes affect every corridor and corner of each game world, and that environmental detail and animation have also been upgraded. He wrote that the team “has tuned each change carefully to authentically preserve the look and feel of the original games.”
Handhelds, Play Anywhere and triggers
Xbox Ally and Ally X owners get full support and optimisation for both games on the handhelds.
The update also adds Xbox Play Anywhere, which Bloch said lets existing players and newcomers play “wherever they are”. On a controller, both games gain full support for Impulse Triggers. Bloch said the feature adds tactile feedback through the triggers and is meant to raise tension during play.
Bloch said the series has built a following over 16 years, and framed the update as a refresh ahead of Metro 2039, which launches on 4 February 2027.
What the bundle contains
The post’s store listing shows the Metro Redux Bundle from Deep Silver at $4.49, marked down from $29.99. The listing says it includes the complete campaigns of Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light with all downloadable content, which it puts at a further 10 hours of bonus material.
Two play styles are included: Survival, played as slow burn survival horror, and Spartan, built around combat.
Ranger Mode removes the HUD and interface, makes combat deadlier and limits resources.
The games are based on the novels of Dmitry Glukhovsky. The story begins with an apocalyptic event in 2013 that drives survivors into the Moscow underground, and the story picks up in the year 2033 with a generation born below ground and station cities fighting each other and mutants on the surface.
Players control Artyom. Bloch said more than 50 million players have played the series since the first game launched in 2010.
