Cedega and PlayOnLinux have made it even easier by providing GUI assistance and management of your games. One game series, however, has proven to be consistently difficult to get working, and that’s The Sims. With its copy protection, hefty system requirements, and extensive dependencies, The Sims 3 is the most difficult of all. If you’ve been struggling to get this game up and running in Linux, look no further.

Note: This is NOT a guide on how to pirate The Sims. You will still need a working install DVD and license key.

PlayOnLinux

Of the multiple approaches to running Windows software on Linux, PlayOnLinux is without a doubt the best choice for Sims 3. This is not because it’s any more “capable’ of running the program, but because PlayOnLinux provides an install script specifically for this game which makes the process FAR simpler than it would be on Cedega or Wine alone.

I recommend that you do not use the PlayOnLinux package provided by your distribution. In testing for this article, I found the pre-packaged versions to be much less functional and reliable than those provided by the PlayOnLinux website. They have up-to-date packages for nearly every major distribution available here.

Beginning Installation

When ready, click the Install button at the top of the PlayOnLinux window. You’ll be given a list of known applications, and you’ll find The Sims 3 near the bottom on the Games section. When selected, you’ll get a bit of additional information about the game and its compatibility.

For the record, I believe they are incorrect about Shop Mode not working, as I had no trouble building and furnishing a house.

When ready to begin, click Apply.

A Note About Prefixes

PlayOnLinux uses prefixes to isolate game installations. When you install a game such as The Sims, you get the equivalent of a new instance of Windows for that game. If you then install a different game such as Spore, PlayOnLinux will create a NEW instance of Windows (a new prefix) for Spore to run. This prevents your files and settings for one game from interfering with another.

Dependencies

This is where PlayOnLinux really shines for Sims 3. On plain Wine or Cedega, you’d have to manually install several packages into your prefix before you can even begin the actual Sims install. Fortunately for us, PlayOnLinux takes care of all that. Before Sims begins, you’ll be prompted to install packages such as Gecko, the Microsoft C++ Runtime Library, and Mono. Allow each of these to complete before moving forward to the next step.

You’ll be given a choice as to whether you’d like to install through the DVD or the downloaded package. Either should work with PlayOnLinux, but the remainder of this guide will be using the DVD edition.

Sims Install

When the dependencies have completed, you’ll be asked to insert your media. CD/DVD drives should be detected automatically, but if you have trouble, you can specify a location by choosing Other. Pick the drive and move to the next step.

STOP. At this point it should have launched the Sims 3 Installer from your DVD. If that didn’t happen, go back and verify that you’ve selected the proper location of your installer.

If you DID get the Sims installer, then proceed exactly as you would in Windows.

If asked about the Download Manager, I’d recommend that you not install it. While it’s possible it may work on your setup, it has caused nothing but trouble on the tests I’ve done. Game patches can be applied manually (discussed in more detail at the end of this guide).

When the Sims 3 Installer window is finished and closed, proceed to the next PlayOnLinux screen. You’ll be asked a little bit of basic information about your video card and if you’d like to create shortcuts.

Important – Before You Play

In the opening paragraph, I hinted that one of the problems with getting Sims 3 to run was because of the copy protection. In order to work around this problem you’ve got to replace the “TS3.exe” file with one that does not contain this copy protection. Unfortunately MakeTechEasier cannot provide such “cracks” or even links to them. You should have no problem obtaining more information from big brother G.

For Sims 3 to run, you’ll have to find a modified TS3.exe on your own, and use it to replace the one in your Sims 3 installation. This will likely be found in “~/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/TheSims3/drive_c/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Game/Bin“.

Once that’s done, you’re ready to play!

Extra – Getting Updates

Earlier I recommended that you skip installing the EA Download Manager. This leaves us with no updates to the game, and Sims 3 is certainly not without its glitches. Fortunately PlayOnLinux has a Patches category which includes a script to install Sims 3 updates manually.

That’s it. Enjoy!

If you are running Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick and own a copy of the Photoshop CS 5 installer, you will find that you won’t be able to install it under wine. Photoshop CS5 on Ubuntu 10.4 works fine, but not 10.10. Here’s what I did to get it running on my Ubuntu Maverick machine.

What you’ll need:

A computer running Ubuntu Maverick

A computer running Windows (it doesn’t have to be a computer. It can be a virtual machine running Windows in Virtualbox)

A copy of Photoshop CS5 installer. You can get the trial version at Adobe website

Let’s get started

In your Windows machine, download (if you don’t own a copy) and install the Photoshop CS5.

Once the installation is completed, go the Start menu and type “regedit” on the search bar. The registry window will appear. Navigate to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> Adobe“, right click the Adobe folder and select “Export”. When prompted, name the file “adobe.reg”.

Back to your Ubuntu Maverick machine, we will need to install wine and the Microsoft true type fonts

sudo apt-get install wine ttf-mscorefonts-installer
winecfg

This will create the “.wine” folder and prepare wine for usage.

Next, we are going to perform some hacks

wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks
sh winetricks msxml6 gdiplus gecko vcrun2005sp1 vcrun2008 msxml3 atmlib

Copying Photoshop files from Windows

Since we can’t get the installer to work in Ubuntu 10.10, we have to copy the core files from Windows to the Ubuntu machine. Folders/files you need to copy/paste are listed down below:

Copy the following folders/files from Windows

and

Paste to Ubuntu

C:\Program Files\Adobe\

->

$HOME/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Adobe

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe

->

$HOME/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Common Files/Adobe

C:\Documents and Settings\$USER\Application Data\Adobe

->

$HOME/.wine/drive_c/users/$USER/Applications Data/Adobe

C:\windows\system32\odbcint.dll

->

$HOME/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/odbcint.dll

Lastly, save the “adobe.reg” file to the Home folder. In your terminal, type:

wine regedit adobe.reg

This will import the “adobe.reg” into the wine registry.

That’s it. Now go to “Home -> .wine -> drive_c -> Program Files -> Adobe ->Adobe Photoshop CS5“, right click on the Photoshop.exe file and select “Open with Wine Windows Program Loader”.

Photoshop CS5 should load. You can also add a shortcut to the Application Menu for quick access.

Note:

1. Some people have mentioned that Photoshop CS5 in Ubuntu crashed with the text function. This has been fixed with the addition of atmlib.dll file.

2. Complex PSD file should load without problem.

3. The above mods were done with wine version 1.2.1. and Photoshop CS5 trial version. If you are using other version of wine or Photoshop, there is no guarantee that the above method will work.

Alternative to Photoshop CS5

For those who can’t get Photoshop CS5 to work, or find it too heavy for your daily usage, you can try out PhotoShop CS5 Portable. This is the unofficial portable version of Photoshop CS5 (not released by Adobe) and the installer work fine with wine. You will still need the atmlib.dll file for the text function to work.

PS: I am not going to tell you where to download the portable version. You can ask big brother G for answer. Also, any comment with links pointing to the file will also be deleted

In previous posts, I have highlighted some of the outstanding new native Linux games that are coming out soon or have been out but may not be well known. For many Linux gamers, however, the pool of native Linux games is still too small.

As most already know, it is possible to play some Windows games in Linux using Wine. Additionally, there are two prominent commercial spin-offs of Wine that are both designed specifically for gaming: Cedega and CrossOver Games. At one time, there was little difference between the three, other than the graphical configuration interfaces. But over time, each has developed its own feature set and, in some cases, support for Windows functionality that the others do not possess.

Wine is completely free, and most Linux distributions make it easy for users to install it. Cedega is available for $25 for a 6-month subscription. CrossOver Games sells for a one-time fee of $39.95. Wine and CrossOver Games are also available for Mac OS X. The makers of Cedega sell a similar product called Cider for Mac users.

Wine

Wine is a compatibility layer for Linux that allows users to run Windows applications. Unlike an emulator, which must also emulate hardware and the operating system, Wine accesses the Windows libraries and makes them work within Linux. This makes Wine faster than emulators and virtual machines.

There are a large number of games supported by Wine, and the project’s website hosts a substantial database of supported and unsupported games, often including details about how to get the games working.

Wine’s graphical configuration tool is called “winecfg” (Wine Configuration), and it includes tools for specifying drivers, configuring media, graphics settings, and desktop integration. By default, there is no graphical frontend for installing or running games, but there are free third-party programs that can act as frontends.

Wine runs OpenGL games very well and will also run many DirectX games. Some games require the installation of additional DirectX libraries that are readily available online. Windows .NET is not easy to install in Wine, but games that require it seem to run fairly well. Users can install many other additional packages, such as MS Core Fonts, using a handy tool called winetricks.

CrossOver Games

Developed by a company called Codeweavers, which also makes CrossOver Office, CrossOver Games is designed to be specifically for Linux gaming. Everything is controlled from a graphical interface where users can create “bottles” to hold multiple Wine configurations. This gives you with the flexibility to have drastically different configurations for your games.

CrossOver Games has a graphical installation tool for games and for additional libraries, including DirectX and .Net. All additional packages install easily, which usually makes installing games faster than with Wine. For configuration, it uses the same utility found in Wine.

Similar to Wine, CrossOver Games has a database of working titles, but the database is far from complete. Users would be better served to use Wine’s database to determine if a game will work in CrossOver.

Cedega

Developed by Transgaming, Cedega has a robust graphical interface with many features for tweaking graphics, sound, and more. It is based on an older version of Wine and has significantly deviated from Wine’s original code. In some cases, this has given it greater support for pixel shaders and other technology. In other cases, it means that some games will work in Wine but not in Cedega.

Cedega supports OpenGL and DirectX games and has added some DirectX compatibility beyond Wine and CrossOver. One significantly absent feature is .Net support. It seems to be impossible to install .Net in Cedega, making it unlikely that games requiring it will run.

Cedega’s website includes a large database of games, available to members only. In most cases, however, the database will only say if a game works or not, providing little other information about it. New games are not usually added immediately, as they often are with Wine. Users can upgrade Cedega as long as they maintain their subscriptions. After a subscription expires, the application continues to work on its own.

The Winner

Unfortunately, there is no clear winner. I have tested games in all three applications and found inconsistency across the board. A game that works in one may not work in the others. Therefore, the only way to get the maximum number of Windows games working in Linux is to have all three.

Wine’s community database has a significant advantage over the others, since it is the only way to know if a game that is not officially supported works. CrossOver has the best support for installing additional packages. Cedega’s strongest point is the graphics configuration utility and support for advanced shaders. Users can start Wine and CrossOver games from the user menu, whereas Cedega games must be started from within Cedega.

Compatibility with Windows games will never be perfect in Linux, but these three solutions all have their positive attributes, and a user who wants to play a limited number of Windows games on Linux will not be disappointed with any of them.

Remember a time when the most complex aspect of a game was unwrapping the packaging? It was a time when a first-person shooter truly was just about one person doing a whole lot of shooting and not much else. It was a time when RAM was still counted by the megabyte and 1024×768 resolution was considered high-end.

If you do remember any of that, first of all, welcome to adulthood. Next, I would like to introduce you to FreeMGP (Mega games Pack) Vol 1. It will take you down memory lane, but even if you are too young to remember the games in this pack, playing them might still seem like a fun way to spend a summer afternoon.

Unlike the PC game bundles of old, there is no physical packaging for this game pack. Instead, you must download the 1.82 GB ISO image and burn it to a DVD. The entire pack of games is free (made up of both open source and freeware games), and this Linux version contains less games than the Windows one, only including those that have been tested and work well in Linux. Even with that limitation, it still includes 211 games. Nevertheless, all of the games are Windows games, so FreeMGP requires you to have Wine installed and operational.

Installation and Interface

Once you have the DVD burned, open it in a file browser. There is an autorun file, presumably for Windows, as well as three folders. You have to choose the Installer folder and run GamesInstaller.exe to start the installer program. I had to assume this was the correct way to run the program, as I did not find any Linux-specific instructions.

The Installer itself, however, is attractive and runs perfectly under Wine. It includes a side menu with game categories and a list of each game. To install, you simply click the check box next to any of the games you want and then click “Start”. It really cannot get any easier.

The games install quickly, as would be expected, and do not take you through individual installers. The only anomaly I experienced was that, with my dual-monitor setup, one of the monitors would turn off during installation, as if a game were about to start.

Once the games are installed, they will appear in your Wine menu, providing individual shortcuts for each game.

Gameplay

I did not test all of the games, but all of the ones I did test worked without any real problems. Some of them were even 3D games, and they all ran well. The compilers of the game pack have taken the time to pre-configure the games to work correctly under Linux. For example, if a game did not run correctly in fullscreen mode, they set it to load in a window by default. Like typical older windows games, this presents you with a variety of resolutions and window sizes, something that is unavoidable.

Once you get playing, you will likely forget about anything I just said, mostly because the games are fun, providing you with everything from all-out arcade action to thoughtful role playing. FreeMGP has something for everyone, children included.

I found most of the games required the mouse, keyboard, or some combination thereof, with a few responding to a gamepad. Many of the games are undoubtedly familiar and are still popular, like Glest and Wolfenstein 3D. Some, like Tower of Goo (the predecessor to World of Goo), can have you clicking for hours. Others like Aztec Challenge have an annoying nostalgic familiarity that is quite amusing. Then, there are games like Marble Arena that could probably still stand on their own with challenging and entertaining gameplay.

The Bottom Line

Pros:

FreeMGP is easy to use and will provide you with a plethora of good games.

It’s free, portable, and redistributable

Even though you can probably find most of the games separately, FreeMGP will save you the time

It has been configured to work with Linux. How cool is that?

Cons:

Most of the games are pretty dated and may even draw an insult or two from your teenage brother

They are Windows games that still require Wine, often producing wide variety of full screen resolutions or tiny game windows

Overall, FreeMGP is a mega pack of fun games, some of which you will definitely want to keep installed and may even pass along to your children. It is definitely worth a little of your time, and at zero cost, it is unquestionably worth the price.

As with all operating systems, the way a Linux game behaves on a computer is largely dependent on the design of the game, the graphics hardware and drivers the user has, and the settings one chooses. Native Linux games are typically better at supporting the computer’s default resolution without much tweaking, but the way it handles fullscreen display on a a dual-monitor system depends on the game engine employed.

After about an hour of trying to configure all of your games, you might very well find yourself drowning in sea of techno-babble and configuration files. But have no fear, MakeTechEasier has come to your rescue yet again.

This brief guide to various types of games you can run in Linux on a dual-monitor system is based on my experience with an Nvidia 3D graphics card and the accompanying proprietary drivers. Nevertheless, most of it will apply to all 3D graphics cards. This guide also assumes that you already have your dual-monitor setup functioning by utilizing Xinerama, TwinView, XRandR, or some other method. This does not apply to dual-monitor setups that use separate Xorg instances for each monitor.

The Problem

When running a game, either as a native Linux application or through Wine, you have probably encountered one of these situations:

1. The game takes over both monitors and stretches the images over both.

2. One screen goes dark, and the other screen displays the game correctly. This may be found for many users.

3. The game maximizes on one screen, but it is not the screen you want to use.

The Solutions

Unfortunately, there is no one solution for all three situations, but there are a few ways to fix them, depending on your preferences.

Windowed Play

Although this may seem like more of a workaround, you can actually have a game run in a window and then turn that window into a fullscreen one. Follow these steps:

1. Configure the game to run in a window. For many Linux games, this might involve editing the configuration file, usually found in ~/.game-name/

2. Set the game’s resolution to your desktop’s exact resolution.

3. Start the game.

4. Use your window manager to make the window full screen (In KDE, right-click on the title bar, hover over ‘Advanced’ and click ‘Fullscreen’. You can also use a shortcut key, if configured. In some games, the ‘Fullscreen’ option will be unavailable. For these, choose ‘No Border’.)

As you might have noticed, Windowed Play has its disadvantages, particularly if your window manager does not have its own fullscreen feature. The biggest advantage is that, if you are like me and are supposed to be working rather than playing games, you can still at least have a business or work app open on the other screen to offer some semblance of efficiency.

Single Full Screen

On nearly all native Linux games that I have encountered, you can achieve true fullscreen results simply by configuring the game to use the resolution of one monitor. This, however, does not guarantee that it will be on the screen you want.

A universal method is to use xrandr to turn off one of the monitors. For example, you can run the following command in a terminal:

$  xrandr --output MONITORNAME --off

There are also graphical xrandr programs available, such as krandtray (Resize and Rotate) or gnome-randr-applet (Display Geometry Switcher). In either case, simply select the monitor you want to turn off and disable it, or in the case of a large virtual display (such as the kind with TwinView), select the smaller resolution.

For SDL games, you can setup an environment variable that will force it to use the screen you want, and this will dim the unused screen as long as you are playing.

$  export SDL_VIDEO_FULLSCREEN_HEAD=2

The number indicates the display number of the monitor, so change it according to your needs. You can even plug this into the game’s startup script and make it all automatic.

Windows Games in Wine

There is an easy way to use a windowed mode in Wine:

1. Start Wine Configuration (winecfg)

2. Click on the ‘Graphics’ tab

3. Check ‘Emulate a virtual desktop’

4. Next to ‘Desktop size’ enter your exact screen resolution.

When you start Wine applications, it will have a Windows desktop in the background. When starting games, the games should go fullscreen with no window border.

This should prevent Windows games from stretching over both screens and give you a fullscreen experience.

There are other options available for fullscreen gaming on dual monitors, and the only way to find the best method for your setup is to experiment with different techniques.

By now, you should have already heard of the popular Wine software that allows you to install Windows applications in Linux. There is also another paid application – CrossOver that utilities Wine and comes with a simplified GUI to help you get the job done easier. Now, here’s another software that is as powerful as Wine and as user-friendly as Crossover, and best of all, it is free.

Wine-Doors is an application designed to make installing windows software on Linux, Solaris or other Unix systems easier. Wine-Doors is built on top of the Wine package, and it provides a easy to use GUI with a one click access to download/install the most commonly used Windows app.

Download the installer file from the Wine-Doors download site. If you are using Ubuntu, download the deb file. Double click on the downloaded deb file to install it in your system.

Open the Wine-Doors application (Applications -> System Tools -> Wine Doors)

When you run it for the first time, it will prompt you to enter your name and company and verify that you have a valid Microsoft Windows license.

Once you click Proceed, it will then download and install a series of compatible font to your system.

When the installation is done, you will see the main screen where you can choose a series of applications to install.

Applications that you can install right within Wine-Doors include:

Visual C++ Libraries

Firefox 1.5 and 2.0 (anyone know why is there a need to install a older windows version of Firefox in your Linux?)

Internet Explorer 6

Opera 9

Quicktime 7

Winamp5

Windows Media Player 6 and 9

7zip 4

DVD Decrypter 3

Dreamweaver 8

Flash 8

Total Commander 7

Eudora 7

CDex 1

3DMark 2000

MetaTrader 4 (Forex trading platform)

Notepad++ 4

Irfan View 4

And even some games:

Soldat

Prey

Steam

Half Life 2

World of Warcraft 2

Warcraft 3

Call of Duty

RollerCoaster Tycoon2

and many other applications. If the list of applications is not sufficient for you, you can also add extra repository to it.

Scroll down the list to find the application that you want to install. Click on the Install link on the right to add it to the Queue section. (Note: Clicking the Install link does not install the app. It only adds to the Queue)

Go to the Queue section.

Highlight the applications that you want to install and click Apply at the bottom. Wine-Doors will then proceed to download the applications from its repository and run the installer.

Once the installation is completed, you will be able to access it from your menu bar.

If you install commercial Adobe apps like Dreamweaver 8 or Photoshop CS2, Wine-Doors will download the demo version (valid only for 30 days) and you need to have a license key to unlock it. Dreamweaver CS3 is not available in the repository (perhaps it is because it doesn’t work out of the box), nevertheless you can still follow the tutorial here to install Dreamweaver CS3 in Ubuntu.

Other features

Manage Wine processes

Wine-Doors allows you to view all the currently running Wine processes and give you the option to kill all processes or reboot wine. This is useful for resetting/terminating an application when it crashes.

Support Cedega

If you are a subscriber of Cedega, you can import your Profiles into Wine-Doors and install game from here.

No uninstaller

Unlike CrossOver, Wine-Doors does not provide a way to uninstall the applications. If you are looking for ways to uninstall applications, you have to do it the Wine way:

Open a terminal and type:

wine uninstaller

You can then select the applications that you want to uninstall.

Refer to the guide here to uninstall applications in Wine.

Have you tried WINE, CrossOver and Wine-Doors. Which one do you prefer?

Playing Windows games on Linux is not really a difficult task. Most gamers are reluctant to migrate to Linux because they have this misconception that Windows games cannot be played on Linux. How wrong they are. If you are one of those avid gamers that I mentioned above, here are 4 ways that you can play Windows games on Linux.

1) Wine

The obvious way to install any Windows applications on Linux is via Wine. At the time when WineHQ released the stable 1.0 version, it has already supported more than 200 Windows games. Before you install any games on Linux, you can first check out Wine AppDB whether your game is already supported in Wine.

2) PlayOnLinux

PlayOnLinux (POL) is a python based script based on Wine code. It is a useful tool that aim to help Linux users run Windows games on Linux without having to go through the scary command line interface. The main features of POL lies in its ability to allow each application to be installed within its own wineprefix. What this means is that one can easily install/modify/remove Windows games without affecting the systems or other applications. POL is open source and has a strong community support on their POL forum. Being a python script, it is not limited to any Linux distribution. Whether you are using Ubuntu, Fedora or Gentoo, you can find installation and usage instructions on the POL site.

3) CrossOver Games

CrossOver Games is an addition to the popular CrossOver series. Unlike other CrossOver products, which are aimed primarily at office productivity applications, CrossOver Games focuses on the stability of installing Windows games on Linux (and Mac OSX). As the same as PlayOnLinux, CrossOver Games provides a click and install method that makes it simple for anyone to use. The latest version of CrossOver Games has already tested to work with more than a hundred Windows games, including the popular World of Warcraft, Half-Life2 and Counterstrike.

CrossOver Games costs $39.95

4) Cedega

Formerly known as WineX, Cedega is a proprietary software from Transgaming Technologies specifically designed for running game written for Windows under Linux. Being a proprietary product, users must subscribe to Transgaming membership to enjoy the full functionality of Cedega.

As a fork of Wine, Cedega strength lies in implement the Mircosoft DirectX API on Linux. Installation of games using Cedega is make to mimics the experience that Windows users have. You insert the disc, run setup.exe, wait for the game to finish installing and finally enjoy your game.

For anyone who is keen to migrate to Linux platform, but can’t live without Windows application, then Wine can be a great solution for you.

What is WINE?

WINE stands for Wine Is Not Emulator. Here is what it is about:

“Think of Wine as a compatibility layer for running Windows programs. Wine does not require Microsoft Windows, as it is a completely free alternative implementation of the Windows API consisting of 100% non-Microsoft code, however Wine can optionally use native Windows DLLs if they are available. Wine provides both a development toolkit for porting Windows source code to Unix as well as a program loader, allowing many unmodified Windows programs to run on x86-based Unixes, including Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, and Solaris.”

Still don’t understand? What it simply means is that with Wine, you can basically install and run your Windows applications (though not all of them) on your Linux platform. All the supported applications are documented at the Wine Application Database (AppDB). At this moment, there are 8237 Windows applications in the AppDB verified to run under Wine, and it includes some of the popular software such as Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver 8, World of Warcraft, Starcraft and Microsoft Office 2000.

(Click the screenshot to enlarge) Sources from WineHQ

To install Windows application, you must first install Wine on your Linux platform.

To install Wine under Ubuntu Gutsy, open up your terminal,

wget -q http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/387EE263.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add -

sudo wget http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/sources.list.d/gutsy.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.list

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install wine

Once installed, you need to configure the Wine “C:” drive to link to an easily accessible folder. First create a “Drive C” folder in your home folder. In your terminal, type

winecfg

In the window that popped up, click on the “Drives” tab. Click on the letter C:, then follow by the “Browse” button. Navigate to your “Drive C” folder and press “OK”. Once done, press the “OK” again to close the window.

Now you are ready to install your Windows application. Here I will install my favorite text editor – PsPad with Wine

In your terminal, type

winefile

or go to System -> Preference -> WineFile. In the window that appears, navigate to the folder with your installer file.

Double click on the installer file.

Follow the instruction and install the application the way you did in Windows

After installation, open the winefile again and navigate to your “C:” Drive Program file folder. Under your application folder, double click on the .exe file to execute the application.

Done!
