Google is also famous for their developer friendly culture and one of the offshoots of that is the 20% time that the developers are allowed to work on side projects that aren’t directly related to their products. Some of those features make it to the public and the Gmail Labs is an example of that. These are experimental features that the Gmail team doesn’t consider ready for prime time yet but they still release it for their users to use and benefit from them, at their own risk. None of these features will harm you or gobble up your email but they’re just not as polished at Google would want them to be.

Top 10 Gmail Labs Add-ons to Increase Your Productivity

gmaillab-unpluggedFor quite a while, Google has been releasing add-on features for a good number of their web applications. Gmail, Calendar and Reader all have several user selectable features. Links to these experimental add-ons can be found on the Google Labs page. Not all of the add-ons are perfect, but they are kid tested and mother approved.

Here is a quote about the Labs add-ons from the top of the Gmail Labs page:

“Gmail Labs is a testing ground for experimental features that aren’t quite ready for primetime. They may change,break or disappear at any time.
