That is simply not true, at least SMTP, POP3 and IMAP ones are still there in KDE 4.

Actually, the ones that I mentioned are also available in KDE 3.5. I used them for the entire duration of the KDE 3 series, particularly the remote:/ one.

As for the ones you mentioned, they do work in KDE 4.3. If you go into KInfoCenter, you will see a full list. IMAP, POP, etc. primarily work in Kmail, which has a KDE 4.3 version.

There are also several other local protocols, I don’t know if they’re supported in KDE 4.
