Last years I was really a huge supported of Opera but with Ubuntu 8.10/9.04 Opera freezes quite frequently :(. Usually when opening a new tab, so I am occasionally forced to use FF for browsing new websites/download. Due to frequent crashes I even considered to switch over FF but I agree that FF is slow for browsing and for manipulating.
So nowadays I am using both, unfortunately.

PS. For FF users, it would be fare to mention that Opera doesn't have any plugin/function like DownloadHelper or Rapidshare Downloader.

Dar-you arent kidding!...i go to ucsd and the homepage crashes in firefox that problem caused me to give opera a go on my linux install and it is simply bulletproof...i hope this post gets people to give something other than firefox a look for a change...there are certainly other great things out there

Opera 9.5 is well worth it. It is a fast and very useful browser. My favorite two are firefox 3 and Opera 9.5. an excellent choice. Please check them out. You will like them.
