Hi all,

For the past couple days I have been trying out LMI Hamachi, which seems to be a decent VPN service.

I am wondering if there are any alternatives (compatible with linux, mac and windows) that anyone could recommend, and if yes, could you also please mention in what way they differ to Hamachi?

Also, on the same topic, does anyone have experience with using openVPN to set up your own VPN server (on an Ubuntu host) and offer your friends and family a "VPN over internet" ? (Is that possible at all?).

Thank you!

There are many of free VPN software around, you can find plenty of hamachi alternative by simple googling.

Some of the alternative include tinc (Windows and Linux), NatNix (Windows and Linux), Wippien (Windows and Linux), Remobo (Windows, Mac and Linux) and OpenVPN (Windows and Linux).

Personally I have not tried setting up OpenVPN, but I guess it is possible.
