John has it right. Time machine and Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper (plus ideally an online backup) make a complete and rather easy backup regiment. I'm really shocked this article didn't even mention Time Machine considering it's built in and drop dead easy.

Is there any reason you didn't mention what are arguably the two most prominent free Mac backup applications, SuperDuper! (which has a free basic version) and Carbon Copy Cloner? Then, of course, there's the built-in Time Machine, but that's probably too obvious. With hard drive sizes and prices being what they are these days, I think anyone doing any backup is crazy if they are not using Time Machine, alone or in conjunction with one of these other solutions.
