This was very helpful. I downloaded the free app. "Name Mangler" and was very impressed to see how fast I learned how to used it.

I had to export 60 Realty Austin agent e-signatures as Layer Comps from Photoshop, but PSD wouldn't let me assign naming conventions to the comps. And Bridge wouldn't let me batch rename by taking out the first 4 digits PSD had added after running the script "Layer Comps to Files."

I don't know if my workflow is perfect, so I could be doing something wrong...

But if I'm wrong, I'm so happy that Name Wrangler can undo my mistakes! Thanks for sharing. :)

"Date/Time- you can only add a date or a time stamp, but not both. The stamp can only be added at the beginning or end of the file name."

To add a date AND time stanp, run the time stamp first and then repeat the action, specifying date. The following example will recursively modify video file names, even in sub directories, resulting in a YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS-FileName.ext name.

[Get specified Finder Items]

[Get Folder Content, with option: Repeat for each subfolder found]

[Get Specified Movies]

[Add Date or Time to Finder Item Names, with options: Created, Hour Minute Second, Before name, None, Dash, Use Leading Zeros]

[Add Date or Time to Finder Item Names, with options: Created, Year Month Day, Before name, None, Underscore, Use Leading Zeros]

NameChanger 2.2.1 seems to be incompatible with Snow Leopard. The heart of the program (the pull-down option in the toolbar to specify which renaming function you desire) has a visual bug that prevents it from displaying. This leaves the critical area plain white.

I've been using NameChanger v1.3.
It's a great freeware app that works in Panther, Tiger, and Leopard.
There's a recent Leopard only version to get here:

I just want to add in that also Renamer4Mac is well worth a try. At least I have been using this freeware for a long time - well, I see now that it has become shareware Anyway: renamer4mac.com.
