Obviously a PC user wrote this. Anyone with a mac knows that a virus program will only make your Mac get very slow. Number 1 and 5 are the only things relevant in this post. All you need to do is not be a gullible fool. That goes for windows users too. I don't run virus software on any of my PC's, and I've never had a virus either.

I'd like to add another security tip:Don't store important files (i.e. those you don't want anyone else to have access to) on your computer itself. Keep them on a separate physical device. Encrypt that device, and keep it physically secure.

Once all your important stuff is safe, you can be a little laxer with computer security.

[...] 1) While Mac OSX is still one of the safest operating system in the World, it doesn’t mean it is safe from virus/malware/spyware attack. The last thing that you want to do as a Mac user is to be so gullible and grant permission to executable files in email (or whatever). Be proactive in protecting your Mac and yourself.
This is a pretty crappy list.

Here is mine

1. Learn about your computer. Take the time to learn what is legit and what isn't.
2. Repeat

Good tips, Damien. At least a few of them can also be applied to PC users, so even for non-Mac users, this is a pretty good list.

@zeek: As I have mentioned in my post, most of the virus targeting Mac require social engineering to succeed. For example, the OSX/Leap-A worm spreads via the iChat instant messaging system, forwarding itself as a file called latestpics.tgz to contacts on the infected users' buddy list. When the latestpics.tgz archive file is opened on a computer it disguises its contents with a JPEG graphic icon in an attempt to fool people into thinking it is harmless. - sources from http://www.sophos.com/pressoffice/news/articles/2006/02/macosxleap.html

Highly inaccurate. There are no viruses a semi-intelligent lifeform can get on the mac. The only 'viruses' require user permission including passwords to run. You have to be pretty goddamn gullible
